The past twelve months has seen a tremendous amount of activity for PACT and Crimebeat with a wide variety of community projects being supported in partnership with our Neighbourhood Policing Teams.
Over 150 PCs and PCSOs have benefited from PACT funding which has enabled them to support local community groups with grass-roots initiatives that help to make north Wales a safer place in which to live.
With prevention of crime very much at the forefront of PACTs work and over 200 grants made during the past year there has been a wide variety of initiatives that the Trust has helped.
These have ranged from Woodland Watch Schemes (pictured), Street Pastors, Business Watch initiatives, to supporting young people with road safety education and drug/alcohol education.
Sport continues to play a major part of community life and this year we have been able to help officers with a number of sporting initiatives including some in Buckley, Wrexham, Llandudno, and Anglesey.
February and March this year saw PACT take its innovative education workshop “Justice in a Day” to young people across north Wales. 50 schools and over 800 young people took part in our interactive drama workshops that investigated the causes and consequences of criminal activity on offenders, victims and the wider impact on the community. The project, developed in partnership with Clwyd Theatr Cymru, received substantial financial support from MagnoxSites, Comtek Network Sysytems Ltd, Thomas Howell’s Education Fund, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and an anonymous corporate donor from the Wrexham area. We are currently planning our next workshops for 2013.
The High Sheriffs Crimebeat youth fund continues to go from strength to strength and will celebrate in 10th Anniversary in north Wales later this year.
Over 40 youth groups have benefited from funding this year which has helped them with projects addressing issues including homelessness, under-age drinking, community pride, antis-social behaviour, bullying and many more besides.
Two highly successful Awards evenings in March saw Digatref Ynys Môn and Llandudno Youth Club win the Annual High Sheriff’s Crimebeat Awards for Gwynedd and Clwyd respectively.
Both High Sheriffs have been busy fund-raising for their Crimebeat fund with a variety of events, and most recently the High Sheriff of Gwynedd completed a gruelling but highly enjoyable sponsored walk around the Anglesey coast-line, raising in excess of £16,000 which will be invested in youth projects on the island.
