An Anglesey village has become the latest ‘No Cold Calling Zone.’
Cold Callers will receive short shrift in Moelfre, thanks to the efforts of North Wales Police and Anglesey County Council.
The council’s Trading Standards department have been working with North Wales Police to ensure that the village has become a ‘No Cold Calling Zone.’
And thanks to the assistance of members of Moelfre Youth Club, who highlighted the dangers residents face when cold callers visit, the launch of the No Cold Calling Zone was a huge success.
PCSO Iona Beckmann said: “Making Moelfre a complete Cold Calling Zone will reduce doorstep crime and deter rogue traders and bogus callers from operating in the village.”
“We have to protect the vulnerable from rogue traders and by working in partnership we can set up more Cold Calling Controlled Zones.”
“The youths were brilliant and everyone commented on how important it is to have the young people involved in their community. It was also very rewarding to see the young people engaging with the older generation.”
Thanks to funding from PACT all residents will receive an information pack containing notices and stickers which they should display clearly on their front doors; the notices are backed up by high visibility street signs which show that the village is a No Cold Calling Zone.
PCSO Beckmann said: “This will send a clear message to rogue traders that Moelfre does not welcome cold callers!”
If residents experience a cold call they should record as many details about the caller as possible including car registration numbers and call Police on 101 or the local Trading Standards department.
