A project to develop a new football field is bringing communities together and getting people involved in environmental issues.
Tynygongl Football Club and the community recently got together for a fun day and football tournament to raise money for their new football field.
And thanks to the assistance of PACT as well as a local businessman, the club, which has approximately 80 members from the rural villages and hamlets around Benllech, is getting closer to having its own field.
PCSO Iona Beckmann said: “The club has recognised the lack of facilities for children and young people, offering soccer schools during the holidays as well as a host of other events. As a result there has been a reduction in antisocial behaviour in all five villages and it is so encouraging to see the young people taking an interest in sport instead of hanging around on the streets.”
“The campaign to have the field ready for the summer is already in action – it has not only drawn community together it is also so rewarding seeing so many volunteers taking interest and giving up their free time to the community.”
“The project has improved trust and confidence between the 5 communities and the Neighbourhood Policing Team and it has been beneficial as the young families now know us well and encourage us to engage with the community.”
“Police surgeries and crime prevention days are held when the club organises events and we are like one big family working together to improve our communities. Even the older generation are assisting with the fundraising and are involved in the family days.”
Pointing out that one of the aims is to get involved in environmental projects with Keep Wales Tidy and the community council, PCSO Beckmann added: “I have also noticed that the young people are taking more notice and wanting to take pride in their community to improve how it looks.”
Bill Abbott the club’s organiser and manager commented: “We are very grateful to PACT for their funding to make it possible for us to organise our community day and the support from the North Wales Police in assisting us to organise these community projects.”
