A realistic and interactive drama that reveals the consequences of law braking to young people and deals with issues they may come across is currently on-tour across North Wales.
Following its previous success, Justice in a day is now in its fifth year. And like previous years, scores of young people across the area are set to benefit not only from the production but its format which enables the viewers to ask what can be sometimes difficult or delving questions in a safe environment.
The production will call Prestatyn, Llandudno, Caernarfon, Wrexham and Dolgellau having already called at Mold.
Educating 13, 14 & 15 year-olds is the main aim of ‘Justice in a day’ which has its roots back in 2010.
Through funding from the Police and Community Trust and support from the Scottish Power Foundation, an interactive educational drama has again been developed with Mold based Clwyd Theatr Cymru. It sees professional actors take teenagers on a journey which follows a fictional character though a series of scenes – from the time he breaks the law through to sentencing at a real Magistrates Court. As each scene develops, opportunities arise to investigate the cause and effect of being involved in law braking – not just for the offender but also on the victim, their families and the wider community.
The nature of the project also allows the young people to get involved in a frank, honest and open investigation in a bid to deter them from going down the route of criminality.
“Over 800 young people from across the six counties watched the production last year which deals with a whole spectrum of issues such as peer pressure, social-media bullying and steroid abuse,” said Dave Evans, PACT Project Manager. “Supported by School Community Liaison Officers and partners, the young people were actively involved each day as will be the case again year. The engagement and involvement of the young people is critical to the success of the programme and it is great that we see a continued positive response from them and their tutors/ teachers.”
