Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour with beach sports program in Colwyn Bay

PACT have recently supported a beach activities program, led by Conwy County Borough Services Leisure Team, to help target Anti-Social Behaviour along the beach front and engage with youths.

The program provides a constructive outlet for youth, diverting their energy and attention away from destructive behaviours towards productive activities. By engaging in sports and recreational activities, young people develop essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and conflict resolution contributing to a more cohesive and harmonious community.

The program also creates opportunities for community engagement and collaboration. By bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds and ages, it will encourage a sense of unity and solidarity, breaking down social barriers and promoting mutual respect and understanding. This sense of community cohesion strengthens social bonds and enhances the overall quality of life for residents.

Furthermore, the positive influence of the program extends beyond the participants themselves to their families and broader social networks. As youth become involved in constructive activities, they serve as role models for their peers and siblings, inspiring others to follow suit. Additionally, family members and community members who support the program are likely to experience increased pride and a sense of belonging, further reinforcing community cohesion.

Additionally, a beach sports program can contribute to the revitalization of public spaces and the promotion of environmental stewardship. By utilizing beaches and other natural resources for recreational purposes, the program encourages community members to appreciate and protect their local environment.

Currently run from Porth Eirias, the sessions will continue into the autumn months moving to an indoor facility but continuing with water sports and activities.
