Through PACTs links to the Clwyd Theatr Cymru, we have developed a drama production which is aimed at teaching young people the consequences of crime, by utilising an inter-active drama education called – “Justice in a Day”.
The theme for our pilot project held in October 2010 was youth-on-youth assault as a result of under-age drinking. “Justice in a Day” has the capacity to be adapted to target issues such as anti-social behaviour, road safety, drug and alcohol education.
Working with professional actors the project will involve young people from Secondary School Year 9 classes (age 13-14) in a series of interactive scenes that will investigate the causes and consequences of the above issues on the offender, the victim, their families and the community.
The interactive nature of the project will enable young people to be involved in a frank, honest and open investigation into the consequences of criminal actions.
We have already secured funding to roll this project out to more schools in north Wales during 2012, and we are currently developing the theme which will again feature under-age drinking and anti-social behaviour as a major part of the workshop.
We are very grateful to the financial support received from Clwyd Theatre Cymru, Comtek Network Systems Ltd; Magnox; North Wales fire and Rescue Service and The Thomas Howells Education Fund.
