CricketBudding young cricketers from across the North Wales donned their whites to battle it out in the annual North Wales cricket finals.

Now in its tenth year, the North Wales Police and Police And Community Trust (PACT) sponsored event took place at Mochdre Cricket Club and it turned out to be a fun packed cricket fest for all the family!

Throughout the cricket season, junior teams from across the area have been competing against each other in different leagues. On Sunday, September 12, the teams from three different age groups who were competing in the North East Wales league and the North West (Eryri) league met on the pitch to establish the overall winners.

There were three games on the day – under 11years of age, under 13 years of age and the under 15′s.

Battling it out for the Under 11′s title was a team from Northop Cricket Club and a team from Pwllheli cricket club, with Pwllheli coming out on top. ‘Man of the match’ was awarded to Morgan Williams of Pwllheli.

The under 13′s final was the pairing of Mochre Cricket Club and Northop Hall Cricket Club with Mochdre being the victors with an emphatic 9 wicket win. Northop posted a target of 77 for 4 with a wicket each for Harri Parkes, Daniel Phillips, Sam Davies and Matt Humphreys. Mochdre raced to 78 for 1 with plenty of overs to spare after an aggressive opening partnership between Sam Davies and Matt Humphreys. Humphreys finished unbeaten on 45 and was presented with the winners shield and man of the match award.

The last match of the day was the Under 15 and saw Gresford Cricket Club take on Llanwrst Cricket Club. After a dramatic match, Gresford celebrated winning the trophy with Man of the match awarded to Iwan Edwards of Llanwrst.

Sergeant Neal Parkes is the organiser of the event. He said: “It was a good family day with around 150 to 200 people coming out to watch and support their children and teams.

“Rain did affect play for a couple of hours but didn’t put the dampeners on the day as the weather changed and it turned into a beautiful afternoon.”

He added: “The event is now in it’s tenth year and it continues to be a success. The date is firmly fixed in the junior cricket calendar. I’d like to thank PACT for funding which helped purchase the trophies.

Dave Evans of PACT added: “The Police And Community Trust are pleased to have been able to sponsor such a sporting event which has brought youngsters together from across North Wales. We wish the event every success for the future and would like to congratulate all the cricketers who took part.”
