A campaign aimed at promoting safety, security and reassurance leading up to Christmas has been hailed a success.
Organised by North Wales Police and supported by the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Gwynedd and Anglesey Community Safety Partnerships, Operation ‘Don’t be kind to criminals’ was held across Gwynedd and Anglesey today (Tuesday, 14th December) at Holyhead, Bangor, Caernarfon, Porthmadog and Barmouth, where officers were out and about giving crime prevention advice and distributing property marking kits.
Inspector Guy Blackwell from the Western Division Community Safety Department said: “The aim of the day was to help promote safety, security and reassurance, especially in the lead up to Christmas.
“Officers have been out and about at busy shopping areas today in various towns talking to members of the public about keeping safe at this time of year and finding out what matters to them in their communities by carrying out the Balance your Bobbies questionnaires.
“SelectaDNA property marking kits – funding for which was secured by both Gwynedd and Anglesey Community Safety Partnerships, have also been distributed and in some areas purse bells, to help deter purse thieves have been handed out.
“Local initiatives will continue this week to provide communities with all the tools, equipment and information they need to keep themselves and their properties safe this Christmas.”
In Holyhead officers from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team, the Fire and Rescue Service and Ynys Mon Crime Prevention Panel were on-hand outside the Argos store on the Penrhos Retail Park.
Purse bells – which had been jointly funded by PACT (Police and Community Trust), the Anglesey Community Safety Partnership and the Ynys Mon Crime Prevention Panel were handed out. Crime prevention literature such as keeping vehicles safe were also distributed whilst the Fire and Rescue Service promoted their free Home Fire Safety Checks.
In Caernarfon staff from the Gwynedd Community Safety Partnership worked with officers outside the town’s Tesco Store, to give out crime prevention advice and distributed free personal attack alarms. Purse bells which have been funded by PACT were also distributed.
In Porthmadog the local Neighbourhood Policing Team as well as staff from the Gwynedd Community Safety Partnership spoke to customers outside the town’s Tesco store and gave advice on how to keep their properties and vehicles safe this Christmas. SelectaDNA property marking kits were also distributed.
In Bangor, officers were inside the Deiniol Shopping Centre speaking to shoppers about how to keep their personal belongings safe. They also carried out the Balance your Bobbies questionnaire.
